Discovering the Hibiscus Oasis Spa Villa: The Ultimate Indulgence at Couples Resort Sans Souci
This January (2024), my fourth visit to Couples Sans Souci in Jamaica was nothing short of extraordinary. Our journey began from Salt Lake City, Utah, connecting through Dallas Fort Worth, and finally arriving at Montego Bay. The exceptional service started right at the airport, where Couples' dedicated lounge, where Colin requested his first Ting of the trip, and they swiftly handled our luggage and arranged a private transfer. Located just outside Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s north coast, this time, we had the privilege of staying in the Hibiscus Oasis Spa Villa, the pinnacle of luxury on the property!
As we arrived post-sunset, the villa's enchanting ambient lighting welcomed us. We were greeted with champagne, a delightful seafood platter, and a chocolate cake. Our prearranged itinerary allowed us to quickly settle in before dinner at Pallazina, the resort's central dining area.

The next morning revealed the true splendor of the Hibiscus Villa. This luxurious villa perfectly captures the essence of contemporary design, offering a blend of elegance and comfort.
As you step into the villa, you'll be greeted by a seamless connection to the master bedroom and lounge area. The master bedroom is a haven of tranquility, featuring a large walk-in closet and a stunning bathroom with his-and-hers Italian showers. There is even a flatscreen that can descend from the ceiling at the press of a button. And when you're ready to unwind, the vast private pool terrace with comfortable loungers is the perfect spot to soak up the Jamaican sun.
But the true highlight of the Hibiscus Oasis Spa Villa is its breathtaking oceanfront infinity pool, perched at the edge of the cliff. From here, you'll be treated to mesmerizing views of the Caribbean Sea, creating a sense of serenity and tranquility like no other. And if you want to immerse yourself in nature, an outdoor shower awaits, allowing you to feel the refreshing breeze as you cleanse.
When you choose the Hibiscus Oasis Spa Villa, you'll enjoy a range of exclusive amenities. Complimentary access to all spa services and treatments means you can pamper yourself to your heart's content. There is even a built in cove for couples massages under the villa which we enjoyed in the mornings to the sounds of the ocean. Private airport transfers from Montego Bay ensure a seamless arrival and departure experience. And for added convenience, you'll have access to the Club Mobay VIP Departure Lounge, in-villa check-in, and a premium mini bar and room service.
Another perk of booking the villa is a complimentary gourmet private dinner, hand-prepared by one of the resort's renowned executive chefs. They crafted me a vegetarian menu which was incredibly kind. While you can choose to have this dinner anywhere on the property, for example, two different seaside gazebos, we chose to enjoy ours at the villa on our private terrace.

Cooking Class at the Pallazina
The resort's cooking class, more a demonstration, offered an insight into Jamaican culinary traditions, accommodating my vegetarian preferences with a delicious idol stew. The charming chef, Tyrone, was a joy to learn from and cooked up some tasty dishes before heading to the beach to lay in the sun.
The Property
Couples Sans Souci spans a vast coastline, offering a plethora of activities. The mineral pool overlooking the ocean was a personal favorite. The resort's design, far from minimalistic, boasts layers of history, charming pathways, and stunning vistas at every turn.

Our visit coincided with the completion of a major renovation. The lobby, main restaurant terrace, and coffee shop have been transformed, exuding elegance and warmth. The Casanova restaurant, in particular, impressed us with its vibrant ambiance and diverse menu, a pleasant surprise for a vegetarian like me.

Fun Fact: James Bond
Couples Sans Souci Resort in Ocho Rios holds a unique allure for James Bond enthusiasts. This charming location was featured in the 1973 Bond film "Live and Let Die." While the main exterior shots of Bond’s bungalow were filmed at Cottage number 1039 at Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay, Couples Sans Souci was chosen for the scene where Bond acquires a set of tarot cards in the hotel’s gift shop. Adding to its cinematic significance, the resort pays homage to Sir Roger Moore, who portrayed the iconic spy and stayed at the resort during the film's production.

At Couples Resort Sans Souci, the weekly Starlight Gala is a centerpiece of the resort's vibrant social life, held every Friday night. This extravagant event is a sensory feast, showcasing the staff's dedication and skill. Each table is adorned with intricate ice sculptures, adding a touch of frosty elegance to the tropical ambiance. The buffet spread is a culinary tour de force, featuring an extensive sushi bar, a selection of meats at the carving station, and towering displays of pastries that are as delicious as they are artistic.
The gala is more than just a dining experience; it's a social hub where guests are encouraged to mingle and meet new people. The atmosphere is electric, with live entertainment, music, and dancing that continue late into the night. It's a celebration that captures the essence of Jamaican hospitality and the communal spirit of the resort. For many, including myself, the highlight of the week is this gala, where every detail is meticulously crafted to ensure an unforgettable evening.
