Things in my Home Office Makeover that just Make Sense

I work from home as a full time travel creator and when I moved into my new townhouse I knew it was time for my partner and I to cut the crapwith our mismatched desk set ups and upgrade to something amazing! My goal with this space was to have a unified working space for two people while still maintaining our individuality. Afterall, I love artsy shit and he loves his drones - haha. Although having your back to the entrance of the room is considered bad Feng Shui, I simply couldn’t think of any other solution than to completely transform the back wall of the office. Below you will find all the individual pieces we needed to go from a blank room to a space we love.

↓ My Exact Set Up ↓

  1. Wood Slat Wall

What a way to totally transform my space! These wood slats are from The Wood Veneer Hub! With just a few screws we had already done the bulk of the transformation of my office. They went up in about 20 minutes or less with one person holding them in place and the other using the drill. The Oak Acoustic Slat Wood Wall Panels are acoustic sound dampening and A-class flame retardant! I needed about 6 packs of the two-packs they arrived in. You can read about installation HERE!

2. Ikea Desk Set up

I’m someone who likes to get shit done quickly. I wasn’t about to wait around for months for a custom desk to get to us via shipping. With a few quick searches, we landed on the UPSPELL gaming desktops from IKEA. These things are huge and happen to be the perfect fit for our space. And when i say perfect, I mean there isn’t an inch to spare. The UPSPELL table top can be purchased with big clunky gaming legs attached but we didn’t want that so we just got the table top an then attached the ALDUS legs. The ALEX drawer is also a perfect 27” so we just put one of those in the middle. No need to secure our table tops to it, they are so snug. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

3. Plant Wall

Okay, this is probably the cheapest solution ever to having some hanging plant walls i nour office. While there definitely some caviats, you cant argue the price! We purchased 3 IKEA frame shelves and used them to hold 9 separate 3.5” planter pots. I drilled some holes in the bottom of each one. I do not mind claiming up to move these plants to the sink for weekly watering but if that is too big of a chore than any fake plant would do! My plants are called Pothos and they grow like crazy so I expect the wall to fill in nicely. *Note: they are poisonous to pets so if your cat or dog likes to chomp on your plats then do not get these.

4. Emiah Armless Office Chair

I bought this chair 2 years ago and it has held up so well. It also looks fantastic in every office I’ve ever seen it in. I prefer an armelss office chair and I think its very comfortable. If you require extra support or wheels, this is not the chair for you. It’s around $230 on Amazon. You can find it here. You can also watch my full review Here on TikTok.

5. Dell Monitor

I received a lot of questions about my setup. While I use my M1 MAX Macbook Pro to produce all of my creative work. My monitor is from Dell and it’s the perfect second monitor. I only use it for admin and not for editing since the colors could potentially be different. Fun fact, if you’re a small business owner, I highly recommend getting the AMEX Business Platinum card because you get a $200 credit to Dell every 6 months! This monitor was essentially free because of my card and I automatically got reimbursed upon purchasing.

6. Kallie Rug

This is the perfect rug for the sitting area behind my desk. It is neutral but with a fun pattern. The checkers are very trendy while still maintaining the geometric modern vibes of the whole office. It comes in multiple sizes and is a great price! You can find it here.

Below you can find my two other furniture additions that completed our office! The Romy Chair and the Oslo Side Table from Down East Homes.

7. Edge Light

I love this edge light from Lume Cube. I got it in a set with the Monitor light below. It provides yellow or white light and can bend in any which direction. I personally like facing it towards the slat wall to gently illuminate my office while working late. It’s also a perfect soft light for when I take Zoom calls.
