During our adventure, we had the pleasure of staying at Buff and Fellow, a remarkable game reserve situated in George, South Africa. This hidden gem, established in 2016, lays along the beautiful Garden Route, making it the perfect pit stop for road trip enthusiasts. Initially a family-run game reserve, it now presents a collection of eco-friendly villas for rent, nestled amidst native wildlife like rhinoceroses and zebras. The reserve sprawls across 28 acres and offers eight uniquely styled cabanas โ€“ ranging from revamped shipping containers to the captivating 'coconut' style. We were fortunate to experience the magic of Eco Cabana Number Eight.

Buff and Fellow Eco Game Farm is conveniently positioned just 10 km from George Airport, and a short distance from Glentana Beach, as well as various local restaurants and shops. This makes it an ideal base for exploring the region. The accommodations, perched on the edge of a serene dam and commanding views of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains, are designed with the utmost comfort and convenience in mind. Each lodging, be it cabins, pods, coconuts, cabanas, or transformed shipping containers, offers a unique stay experience. The friendly staff, equipped with an advanced hotel management system, ensures a seamless memorable, and unique stay. Imagine relaxing in your personal wood-fired hot tub, in the company of buffalos, rhinos, and other wildlife, creating a truly unforgettable South African adventure.

We stayed in Eco Cabana no. 8. The furnishings and decor, from the Raton light fixtures to the bamboo accents, truly connected us with the surrounding nature. Our cabana comfortably slept eight people, with three king-size beds and two bunk beds. The outdoor fireplace was a showstopper, offering ample seating for the whole family. Additionally, a wood-burning heated hot tub was available. The hosts kindly started the fire to heat the hot tub before our arrival.

Don't miss out on the add on Meal-In-a-Box options if you decide to visit. Choose between various meal boxes primarily filled with ingredients from their property. We enjoyed the Buffalo burger box, which we grilled ourselves. The box was beautifully garnished with fresh lavender and local flowers in a decorative mug. As a vegetarian, I was provided with large mushroom tops that I grilled with some olive oil, alongside the burger. Additionally, we ordered a wine and cheese box, which was the perfect snack while enjoying the hot tub. South Africa is renowned for its high-quality wine, which I highly recommend adding on as well. The more I discovered about this place, the more I fell in love with it. Just outside the cabins, you can even collect your own fresh eggs in the morning.

The more I learned about this place, the more I appreciated how the animals were treated with abundant love and care. Two white rhinoceroses live on the property, heavily guarded with cameras due to the high risk of poaching. The buffalo are tested every three years for common diseases to ensure their health. There are also several horses residing near the main building, which are incredibly endearing. We were fortunate enough to take a morning drive at 9 AM with the property owner. As I mentioned before, the property is owned an maintain by the du Toit family. Pieter was an incredible guide during our morning game drive.

You also have the option to book breakfast, which I highly recommend. They serve breakfast sandwiches on fresh rolls, hot coffee with cream and sugar, local yogurt, and the option of morning mimosas. One highlight of our visit was chatting with the owner and his wife, Suki, and petting their dogs, Zoe and Levi. The family also owns a nearby wedding venue with incredible reviews. It's a perfect setup for families to stay in the Eco cabanas and hold a ceremony at their venue. The property will soon have two new luxury cabanas that face the sunset. Each will have its own watering hole to attract rhinoceros and other animals for up-close encounters. These are expected to be completed in 2024!
